About Me
The Full Story
Becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist was a passionate goal I had from the age of 12 years old. I observed speech-language pathologists and became amazed at their scope of practice and expertise as they worked with my sibling throughout their stay in the NICU and once they were home for early intervention services until the age of 3 years old. I can clearly remember thinking to myself, "The expert that worked with my brother in the NICU so that he could safely swallow, the passionate and inspiring professional that came to our home to teach our family how to administer tube feedings safely, AND the phenomenal therapist that helped my brother gain the ability to express himself.... all have the same career?!" I still recall the shared joy and relief felt when my loved one was distressed, and I was able to effectively communicate with them to help for the first time. The rest is history! I became a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree and took it to the next level by obtaining my Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology; both at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. I achieved my goal of becoming an SLP, however my passion for providing best practice therapy for all in the most functional, efficient manner is continuous. I've worked in schools with caseloads ranging from preschool through 8th grade, inpatient hospital at bedside, and in an outpatient medical setting with individuals aged 18 months to 90 years in the areas of speech, language, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), swallowing, cognition, literacy, auditory comprehension, social-pragmatic communication skills, emotional regulation, and fluency.
